FEATURED: ESTATE FIND - - VIETNAM WAR era U.S. COAST GUARD OPERATIONS DEEPFREEZE ANTARCTICA 2 Photo Albums 1955-56! 44 PHOTOGRAPHS IN TOTAL! Most of the Photos measure about 10” x 8 ⅛”. The ship involved is the USCGC Eastwind. According to online research engine WIKIPEDIA: “USCGC Eastwind (WAGB-279) was a Wind-Class icebreaker that was built for the United States Coast Guard. Completed in time to see action in World War II, she continued in USCG service under the same name until decommissioned in 1968”. Some photo highlights include:
*Didn’t take any of them out of the binders while photographing. However, while listing these, took several out and found paperwork attached to the backs (typewritten) indicating they are OFFICIAL USCG Photos. Also noted they have gotten damp/wet, as there is some warping of the photos and letter fading on the attached paperwork on the backs of these photos.
- Images of the ship USCGC Eastwind; dogsleds; penguins (1 with USCG); a hazing ceremony, several people (admiral, captains, and others - not shown); a wooden cross that reads: MEMORIAM CAP. R.E. SCOTT R.N. / DR E.A. WILSON / CAP. L.E.G. OATS INS. DRGS. / LT H.R. BOWERS R.I.M. / PETTY OFFICER E. EVANS R.N. / WHO DIED ON THEIR RETURN FROM THE POLE MARCH 1912 / TO STRIVE & SEEK TO FIND AND NOT TO YIELD.; a whale alongside the ship, a box w/ the lettering: BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1907; a US Navy plane; showing the ship frozen over; ship Greenville Victory; shots of the icebergs, and many others - a lot showing the ice.
CONDITION: These VIETNAM WAR era U.S. COAST GUARD OPERATIONS DEEPFREEZE ANTARCTICA 2 Photo Albums 1955-56 have: wear, photo warping, musty/storage odor, wet-then-dried areas (an example of the wetness/moisture can be seen on photo #24), some with small corner bends, foxing, and soiling. PLEASE SEE ALL 24 PHOTOS!!! Unfortunately, these photos were not preserved well - and need some TLC!!! Most likely can be flattened out. AS THEY ARE, they still represent a GREAT TIME-FRAME in the U.S. Coast Guard History!!!
