    Petroglyphs (Echoes of Ancient Hawaii) – FISH: The Hawaiians made petroglyphs, designs & figures etched into stone, to commemorate important events in their lives. Events such as the birth of a child, a great battle, a life changing experience, a sea voyage or even a good day of fishing. Though the stylized designs may appear simple, great care and skill was needed to abrade the pattern onto the basalt stones and cliffs. Petroglyphs are found in all inhabited parts of the Hawaiian Islands and range in age from the time of earliest Polynesian settlers to the arrival of Europeans. Many stone faces are crowded with figures continuously added over a thousand years, spanning the whole history of the Hawaiian people. Pendant is made of lead-free pewter and measures 1” high and .75” wide. It is strung with a cord and mounted on a card with the above narrative.
