Proper placement is key to the success of a bat house. Keep the following information in mind before installation:
HEIGHT
- Bat houses should be at least 12 feet off the ground, although 15-20 is ideal. Do not hang on a tree—instead, use a wooden post, metal pole, or building side.
DISTANCE
- Try to maintain a 20- to 30-foot distance from branches, wires and other obstructions.
LIGHTING
- Houses should face south or southeast and require a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight, with morning sun being the most favorable. Do not mount near bright, artificial lighting.
TEMPERATURE
- Internal temperatures should stay between 80-100 degrees Fahrenheit. Bat houses do best when they are located within ¼ mile of a body of water.
