Handsome original fold-out 1942 Esso road map of New England, printed more than 75 years ago.
The map opens to 32½" x 23" and has great detail on old highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company of New York.
The coverage area includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
There's a colorful, charming pictorial map and inset plans of New Haven, Providence, and Boston.
The map was published by the Colonial Beacon Oil Company to promote its Esso brand gasoline and motor oil. It is dated by the code number in the lower corner: 142.
The cover artwork shows a harbor scene at East Gloucester, Massachusetts, with two sailboats.
